Relative Feed Value (RFV) is an index used to compare the quality of different forages. It's calculated based on digestible dry matter (DDM) and dry matter intake (DMI). For example, alfalfa cut at early maturity stages (late-bud to one-tenth-bloom) typically has 20% to 25% crude protein and higher RFV, while lower Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF) and Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) values are more desirable for digestibility and animal consumption.
